Jamieson Laboratories sees renewable solar energy as a natural step in its community and environmental social plan. This goes beyond the recently announced plan to plant 7000 trees annually over 10 years starting in 2010 to offset the 425 metric tonnes of paper Jamieson uses annually.

Luke Bogdanovic, owner of Electrical Power Group (EPG Electric), a Windsor, Ont.-based electrical contractor, is in the process of compiling a solar site analysis and engineering study for a 250kW roof-mounted solar system for the 90,000-sf Jamieson warehouse (Twin Oaks site). The proposed solar project will produce about 300,000 kWh annually—enough to power about 20 average-sized homes for a year.

Jamieson and Bogdanovic say they are both committed to Windsor and the local economy. The 1400 solar panel array, materials and labour will be supplied by local manufacturers and suppliers. With environmentally pro-active industry leaders like Jamieson, Bogdanovic knows there is tremendous potential for a new solar industry in the Windsor region—not only for his company, but for others that take the time to educate themselves.

EPG expects it will create about 25 new jobs in Windsor starting in 2010 as a result of new commercial and residential solar installations made possible by the Green Energy Act legislation and OPA fee structure.

Jamieson has taken a stance as environmental community leaders. This will be one of the first large-scale installations at a manufacturing facility under the new OPA “Feed in Tariff” or “FIT Program” in Canada, says EPG.
