August 2, 2012 - AltaLink is a fully independent transmission company, responsible for the maintenance and operation of approximately 11,600 kilometres of transmission lines and 260 substations in Alberta. AltaLink is seeking to hire a:

Manager, Project Controls/Scheduling - North Region
This full-time, permanent, position is located in Calgary, Alta.

Summary:
Provide program/project controls (cost and schedule) supervisory function as part of the Projects, Project Management Office (PMO) for AltaLink projects in the North Region, Alberta. This includes personnel administration and staffing activities, establishing objectives, providing technical direction and support, employee development. This position is responsible for supervision of the northern regional project controls staff and reports to the Director, Project Controls and Governance.

Responsibilities:
• Coordinate, supervise and direct cost and scheduling activities for the North Region Project Controls team.
• Develop and implement project controls standards and procedures, monitor compliance and initiate corrective measures as necessary.
• Ensure that all planning and scheduling activities such as schedule development, project reporting and problem analysis activities comply with company and client requirements.
• Provide QA/QC of cost and scheduling processes, reports and utilization.
• Represent project controls tasks in AltaLink and EPC meetings and others, as required.
• Prepare monthly updating of costs and resources, load schedules, and perform earned value management versus the baseline.
• Interface internally with project managers, financial controllers and technical staff.
• Prepare, update and issue project schedules, bar charts and variance reports.
• Prepare specialty schedules, input and progress reports (i.e., startup schedule and milestones, AltaLink progress reports).
• Coordinate scheduling activities and action items.
• Communicate areas of concern to Director of Project Controls/Project Reporting and Governance.
• Analyze reports and make recommendations to Director of Project Controls/Project Reporting and Governance and VP, PMO and VP, PMO.
• Make knowledgeable forecasts based on current information and experience.
• Prepare capital improvement program cash flow analyses to support long- and short-term financing planning.
• Provide input into the preparation of AltaLink cost estimates to be included in project sanction budgets.
• Prepare periodic budget reports reflecting the most current estimates of total project costs and estimated yearly budgeted amounts for each project reflecting any schedule phasing.
• Ensure all project cost (data collection, field estimating, productivity analysis, budget forecasting) and scheduling (schedule development, updates, progress reporting and problem analysis) activities comply with AltaLink requirements.
• Work in a manner to ensure personal safety and that of fellow employees by following company health and safety guidelines and policies.

Education:
• University Bachelor Degree(s) in Commerce, Finance, or Engineering required, Masters Degree preferred.
• Professional Engineer (P. Eng) preferred.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred.

Experience:
• 7+ years of management experience in Project Control functions in projects ranging from $10 million to $500 million.
• Minimum 3 years management experience.
• Ability to coordinate and supervise group work effort.
• Ability to validate complex proposals with minimum of supervision.
• Ability to guide and direct teams; organize, plan and implement new systems/work.
