Senior Conceptual / Power System Engineer
     
The Senior Conceptual Engineer - Power System Engineer, is a member of the Conceptual Engineering group within the Projects department and reports to the Manager of Conceptual Engineering.

The primary role for this position is to lead a smaller group of 3-4 engineers within the Conceptual Engineering team working on development of system upgrades and customer connection projects during the initial phase for additions to AltaLink’s transmission system. The Senior Conceptual Engineer will work with a multi-disciplinary team, both external and internal, to resolve any issues that arise during the development stage. They will actively participate in the team’s work and assure timely delivery of all requested Connection Proposals, NID Applications, Cost Estimates, Study Reports and any other documents that may be requested by the AESO, other TFOs or DFOs, load or generation customers and the AUC. Furthermore, mentoring of junior team members will be a key role.

Responsibilities
• Lead a small group of 3-4 engineers: provide support, control workload, assure delivering of assigned projects on time, etc.
• Provide advice and input from AltaLink to the AESO’s regarding system upgrades and customer connections
• Develop Connection Proposals with FortisAlberta and other customers
• Develop NID Applications as requested from the AESO
• Perform power system studies required for customer connection and regional development projects
• Develop order of magnitude cost estimates for various transmission options
• Manage multiple projects during the concept phase
• Provide direction to the AESO to identify system and operational issues on AltaLink’s transmission system
• Work with and mentor junior members of the Conceptual Engineering team

Qualifications
• Minimum 10 years of power system engineering experience on high-voltage transmission systems (138 kV, 240 kV, 500 kV) including minimum 5 years of industrial experience with utility companies
• B.Sc. or higher degree in Electrical Engineering
• Professional Engineer registered with APEGGA
• Experience with PTIs (Power Technology Incorporated) PSSE program and other power system analysis tools such as PSCAD/EMTDC
• Demonstrated leadership capability in leading a multi-disciplinary team
• Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Power Point, Excel, etc.
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
