October 16, 2012 - ESFi Canada is the premier Canadian electrical safety organization whose purpose is to reduce electrically related deaths, injuries and property loss through education, advocacy and the creation of highly effective risk reduction interventions. We are currently seeking an:
Executive Director (1 year contract, 3 days/week)
Executive Director (1 year contract, 3 days/week)
to work with the board of directors and other industry leaders to help build this new national electrical safety organization. As the organization develops, the executive director role would become a full-time position. The executive director will report to the ESFi Canada board through the board chair and take a hands-on approach toward building ESFi Canada.
The successful candidate for this position will:
• Provide overall general management and administration of ESFi Canada’s affairs.
• Reach out to industry stakeholders to promote sponsorship and support for ESFi Canada and its programs.
• Act as project manager and provide leadership and expertise to ensure implementation of planned programs and activities.
• Work with the board to support the governance of the organization and to develop its strategic plan, annual plan and budgets.
• Liaise with and develop positive and synergistic relations with ESFi in the United States.
• Within the policies and authorities established by the board, assume responsibility for the overall administration and general management of ESFi Canada and the effective maintenance of the business affairs of the association in accordance with policies and procedures approved by the board.
• Subject to policy, approved budget and delegated authority, engage and supervise contract or organization staff to support the operation and ESFi Canada.
• Execute contracts and commitments on behalf of ESFi Canada as approved by the board, and administer contracts and the fulfillment of such by vendors and suppliers to ESFi Canada.
• As ESFi Canada grows, establish effective and efficient infrastructure to support the operation of ESFi Canada. Oversee the day-to-day financial management of ESFi Canada and develop and maintain appropriate budgetary procedures with the treasurer.
• Oversee expenditures of budgeted funds in accordance with the approved budget and established authority limits, and act as one of the association’s signing officers.
Experience and Qualifications:
• Strong leadership skills.
• Experience in strategic and financial planning.
• Proven planning, administrative, supervisory and budgeting skills.
• A passion for, and/or demonstrated interest in, promoting and supporting electrical safety.
• Knowledge of the electrical industry.
• Extensive network of contacts within the electrical industry is a definite asset..
• A hands-on, roll-up-the-sleeves approach.
• Association or not-for-profit management experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and team-building and promotion or sales skills.
• Proven experience working collaboratively in multi-sector organizations.
• Preferred experience in fundraising and sponsorship and development.
• Good working knowledge of MS Office suite.
• Ability to speak French would be an asset.
• Able to travel from time to time on ESFi Canada business.
