Metering Operations Assistant (Full-Time)


Summary
Reporting to the Director of System Operations, the successful candidate will help ensure the transmission metering systems (MV-90, PI, SAP, ION Enterprise) are effectively utilized, to provide internal and external stakeholder groups with accurate and reliable metering data in a timely manner.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with data management experience, with the ability to work well under minimal supervision.

Responsibilities
• Coordinate the daily up-load of transmission Point-Of-Supply (POS) and Point-of-Delivery (POD) meter data to satisfy applicable service agreements, regulations and codes. Provide superior customer service to external customers, responding to requests for data, reports and assistance promptly and efficiently.
• Adhere to all service agreements and work in a high pressure environment with tight deadlines (perform validation tasks on metering data and compile reports by 9 am the next business day).
• Ensure the integrity of market sensitive metering data and use a high level of problem-solving skills to analyze any suspicious data.
• Collect, analyze and validate the metering data for accuracy and completeness. Implement associated clauses of Settlement System Code (SSC) in each of these steps for compliance to the Code. Take actions to complete readings if failed, and continue to fix/estimate any incorrect data also to meet associated clauses of Settlement System Code (SSC) for compliance to the Code.
• Solve problems as encountered to ensure data is complete and prepared for transfer to external parties. These problems may involve a database system problem, or a problem out in the field.
• Document processes and analyze metering data for completeness and accuracy of interval peak and electrical system changes.
• Identify possible equipment failure, and test/repair if possible. Dispatch appropriate field personnel (Metering Technicians and/or Telecomm Technicians) to repair/replace and assist in identification to resolve field problem in a timely manner.
• Assist the field crews to help determine sources for metering problems and combine efforts to come up with a proper solution.
• Provide training and guidance to other metering data acquisition staff in systems and processes.
• Manage and update the metering databases like MV-90, PI, SAP, and ION Enterprise.
• Support effective management of transmission metering assets through on-going updates to various metering asset databases to ensure the smooth process of a possible audit from Measurements Canada.
• Manage the metering data in AltaLink's internal databases, as well as ensuring the upload of data to both the AESO and various stakeholders.
• Assist AltaLink’s Metering Engineer with the following:
• Month End Data Reconciliation with AESO. Provide AESO with the corrected data for any discrepancy between their monthly download and updated AltaLink month end data. Use Microsoft Access to calculate totals.
• Process external customer’s request for Data check/totals. Check, calculate and send necessary corrections for data discrepancy between Fortis, AESO and TransAlta.
• Provide feedback and assistance to ensuring the validation process runs as smoothly as possible, whether it is for a technical need or a business need.
• Provide assistance to the Metering Engineer by gathering requested technical information for further analysis.

Qualifications
• This position requires a 2-year diploma from a recognized institution in Engineering Technology. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Formal metering training or experience in meter operations would be an asset.
• Some knowledge of metering requirements within AltaLink, including applicable regulations and codes would be an asset.
• Demonstrated proficiency to analyze numerical data with high level of accuracy, completeness and attention to detail.
• Proven efficiency in MS Excel, Word & Access, and Windows.
• Familiarity with specialized programs for metering applications such as: MV-90, PI database, SAP and ION Enterprise would be an asset.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work effectively in a team environment and ability to develop strong internal and external relationships.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple issues at the same time.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to act independently to solve problems and commit to deadlines.
• Strong customer service skills with a proven record of providing prompt, professional service.
• A demonstrated positive and proactive approach, focused on innovation and productivity.
