Major Canadian datacom gathering in Montreal - BICSI

April 12, 2010
b_200_0_16777215_0___images_stories_2009_EBFebruary2009_ebfebruary2009cover.jpgAn important low-voltage technology conference—which only comes to Canada once every several years—is in Montreal next month, and EBMag will be there, and we hope to see you there, too. The gathering to which we refer is the BICSI CANADIAN CONFERENCE & EXHIBITION May 2-5, at the Hilton Montreal Bonaventure (conference venue).

This conference is really for anyone involved with, or looking to get into, traditionally “low-voltage” technologies, such as datacom, fiber, security and more. (We feel conferences like this can really help you up your game and become a single-solution provider for your clients.)

Here are just a few of the things you’ll learn at the event:

Opening General Session & Education
The keynote speaker for the conference’s opening general session is Joe Madigin of Bell Canada, who will discuss “Cabling the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games”. The presentation will focus on the planning and implementation of the massive cabling systems that were required to successfully and flawlessly provide communications and information systems for the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

CCTV Deployment: Understanding the Whole Picture
• Delivered by Carol Everett Oliver (Berk-Tek, a Nexans Company) and Glenn Adair (Panasonic System Solutions)
Putting together an efficient IP surveillance system requires combining quality components and technologies. From design to implementation, this includes selecting the right cameras and cabling infrastructure that, together, can provide the highest quality video for any application.

Understanding the Importance of Field Testing and How to Maximize Your Infrastructure for Reliability and Performance
• Delivered by Ron Groulx (Fluke Networks)
Delegates will learn about the most important aspects of field testing in today’s data communication infrastructure. As networks grow and change, the performance of cabling and wireless is critical to delivering new technologies and services to end users.

Dynamic Power Architecture in Response to the Evolving Data Centre
• Delivered by Joe Oreskovic and Alain Nkenda (Eaton Power Quality Co.)
The frequency of MAC (moves, adds or changes) within data centres is increasing due to changes in business growth priorities. This is driving the need for power delivery architecture to be flexible enough to support dynamic data centre growth—not only of traditional large data centres, but also within the rack enclosure itself.

TIA TR-42 Standards Overview and Update
• Delivered by Herbert V. Congdon II (Tyco Electronics Amp Netconnect) and Julie Roy (C2 Consulting)
This seminar will cover the latest and greatest developments in the TIA TR-42 cabling standards subcommittees. Attendees will learn about new standards, revisions, documents and projects, as well as how they affect the way in which customers design, specify and install telecom cabling.
