Partners in Prevention - New Ontario Health and Safety Conference

The Ontario workplace health and safety system, which comprises four newly amalgamated organizations (Infrastructure Health and Safety Association [IHSA], Health and Safety Association for Government Services [HSAGS], Safe Workplace Promotion Services Ontario [SWPSO] and Workplace Safety North [WSN], has provided more details on its new health and safety conference and trade show.

Partners in Prevention 2010: Ontario Health & Safety Conference & Trade Show takes place May 4-5, with a pre-conference program for small businesses and organizational leaders on May 3. The inaugural event promises to provide delegates with opportunities for expanding their H&S knowledge while developing practical tools and applications that will assist them in reducing injuries, illnesses and fatalities in their workplaces. The trade show will boast about 400 exhibitors.

Backgrounder
Ontario’s workplace health and safety system undertook an assessment and restructuring of its programs and services; as a result, 12 of the province’s H&S associations amalgamated to form four new organizations (effective January 1, 2010). Combined, these four organizations serve more than 236,000 Ontario businesses. They are:

The Infrastructure Health and Safety Association (IHSA) is formed by:
• Construction Safety Association of Ontario (CSAO)
• Electrical & Utilities Safety Association (E&USA)
• Transportation Health and Safety Association of Ontario (THSAO)

Health and Safety Association for Government Services (HSAGS) is formed by:
• Education Safety Association of Ontario (ESAO)
• Municipal Health and Safety Association (MHSA)
• Ontario Safety Association for Community and Healthcare (OSACH)

Safe Workplace Promotion Services Ontario (SWPSO) is formed by:
• Farm Safety Association (FSA)
• Industrial Accident Prevention Association (IAPA)
• Ontario Service Safety Alliance (OSSA)

Workplace Safety North (WSN) is formed by:
• Mines and Aggregates Safety & Health Association (MASHA)
• Ontario Forestry Safe Workplace Association (OFSWA)
• Pulp and Paper Health & Safety Association (PPHSA)
