Michael writes: The following pictures are from a factory where I was testing motor efficiency with capacitors.
When I started my test with this contactor, carbon smoke started to come out. This contactor started across the line for a 60hp, 600V motor. I turned off the power and looked at the contacts. That’s when I noticed they were gone!
If that wasn't enough, the disconnects feeding them were old and loose. The C phase was loose and, after pulling out the wire, the back side of it looked like the picture.
