May 17, 2013  - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. (MHI) completed its acquisition of Pratt & Whitney Power Systems (PWPS), which will now be known as PW Power Systems.
May 17, 2013 - Ideal Industries (Canada) Corp. is celebrating its 50th anniversary of manufacturing in Canada. Congratulations!
May 17, 2013 - Territorial premiers met in Whitehorse, Yukon, for the 11th annual Northern Premiersʼ Forum, where they discussed numerous issues of importance, including cost-effective energy systems, as well as cleaner alternatives. The expense of powering with diesel impedes economic development across the North by driving up the cost of living and the cost of doing business, say the premiers.
May 16, 2013 - Megger says its new KC series of test leads are long enough to be used for assessing the continuity of lightning protection conductors in wind turbine blades. Developed and designed in conjunction with wind turbine manufacturers, the KC series is the first commercially available product of its kind to have been specifically designed for wind turbine applications, boasts Megger. The leads promise accurate results and eliminate the time-consuming, inconvenient and unreliable process of engineers and technicians fabricating their own test leads, adds Megger. Available in three lengths (328 ft, 164 ft and 98 ft), the KC series can be used onsite or in a manufacturing plant; each lead comes standard on a heavy-duty cable reel that is fitted with a friction brake to avoid tangles when reeling out the cable.
May 16, 2014 - Steinel America has expanded its line of occupancy sensors to include models with 347/480vac for use in high-bay installations. The HBS 200 and HBS 300 mount directly to a high-bay lighting fixture or junction box, and use passive infrared technology to sense occupancy. Multiple sensitive pyroelectric sensors are used to provide uninterrupted coverage. They are engineered to perform at mounting heights as high as 45 feet; the HBS 200 provides a linear reach up to 100 feet, and the HBS 300 provides 360º of coverage to control high bay open areas. To help users achieve the required coverage, the area may be adjusted with the provided plastic lens covers that snap to the front of the sensor lens. And for applications requiring the benefit of wireless control zones, the sensor can be used with Steinel’s MF1-UL wireless control module.
May 16, 2013 - T3 Innovation says its new Cable Prowler cable tester and report management system combines the functions of a high-end cable tester and length measurement tester with the capability to identify link status, link capability, and PoE (power over ethernet) detection. “The Cable Prowler provides full cable testing, displaying wire map, numbered ID remotes and any faults, including shorts, opens, miswires, split pairs and reverses,” said Ron Vogel, T3 CEO. Cable Prowler measures cable length (using TDR technology) and generates tone levels for signal tracing and cable identification on all pairs, a selected pair or a selected pin. All of this displayed in a full colour graphical display. Cable results can be exported to a computer via micro USB cable for record keeping and printing.
May 16, 2013 - Cree says its new Full Definition CR4 and CR6 LED downlights are ideal replacements for 4-in. and 6-in. incandescent downlights. The downlights boast a 2700K colour temperature, dimming and 80+ CRI. The CR Full Definition luminaires can deliver payback against incandescent downlights in less than one year in many installations, adds Cree, and are offered at a price that is up to 25% less than Cree’s comparable 90 CRI products. For customers requiring a higher CRI, Cree is expanding the existing CR Series LED downlights to include new colour temperature and light quality options. The CR Series now offers 3000K, 3500K and 4000K temperatures in addition to the existing 2700K—all featuring a CRI of 90 or more.
May 16, 2013 - Eaton is introducing the XT motor control centre (MCC), which employs 24vdc control power for commercial, industrial and OEM applications. Communications-enabled versions of the XT MCC allow customers to configure, control and monitor their systems so that maintenance and operations personnel can address problems before they cause downtime or excessive energy waste. Customers can select from ethernet/IP and Modbus TCP communications protocols. Additionally, a gateway can be added to enable communications with external devices using other network protocols. To help protect personnel and equipment from the dangers of arc flash, arc-preventive FlashGard technology can be incorporated into the XT MCC. FlashGard enables units to be disconnected and reconnected to the vertical bus with the unit door closed, maintaining a dead-front barrier during maintenance operations increases operator safety.
May 16, 2013 - AFL has expanded its One-Click Cleaner product line with the Noyes One-Click Cleaner MPO. The push-type cleaner simplifies ferrule end-face cleaning on both exposed MPO connectors and MPO connectors in adapters. As with all One-Click Cleaners, this one uses a “push-to-clean” design: the mechanical push action advances the optical grade cleaning tape while cleaning the end-face of the connector.
May 16, 2013 - Explosion-proof lights have joined Phoenix Products’ offering of LED fixtures (photos below). The SLXP, SLX and DLX LED fixtures provide an instant-on light source while remaining cool to the touch. Designed to replace HID and incandescent floods, the fixtures use 39 watts and provide a 56% energy savings when compared to a 70W metal halide equivalent. The fixtures are ETL/cETL certified, conforming to UL 1598 Ordinary Locations, 1598A Marine Outside Type (Saltwater), 844 Hazardous Locations (T6 [85C]), CSA and NEMA 4X, allowing them to serve in numerous applications.
