May 13, 2015 – The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) has established a new committee, Resilient Lighting, and is on the lookout for members. This committee will actively research, develop consensus of best practices, write standards documents, and educate on equipment and recommended practices for lighting that must survive and perform during and after adverse events, such as storms and earthquakes.

The committee was formed in response to the increasing threat of natural and manmade hazards, IES said. Contemporary planning, building materials, and design, construction and operational techniques can make local communities more resilient to these threats, the society added.

Committee members will:

• Attend face-to-face meetings at Lightfair International and the IES annual meeting. There may be additional meetings via conference call or webinar monthly, bimonthly or quarterly.

• Join, participate, liaise and actively pursue activities with allied organizations working on resilient design standards.

• Actively research, write, find or contribute images and generally produce documents.

• Recruit and establish contacts with other people and organizations involved in defining, developing resilient building and product standards.
