Siemens upgrades SGT-800 turbine for June 2015

June 18, 2015 | By Renée Francoeur

June 18, 2015 – Siemens presented the next upgrade step of its model SGT-800 industrial gas turbine recently at Power-Gen Europe in Amsterdam. The product is now also available with a power output of 53MW and an electrical efficiency of 39% in simple cycle application.

In a 2×1 combined cycle configuration, the power output is 150 MW at a net efficiency of more than 56% with the same dual fuel Dry Low Emission (DLE) system, capable of NOx levels below 15 ppm and CO emissions below 5ppm, Siemens noted.

Minor changes of the machining of four stationary components have been required in this upgrade to exploit the built-in performance tuning potential in the turbine section. The company said no changes have been made to castings or materials and the outlet temperature from the combustor remains the same.

This upgraded turbine is offered in addition to the two current SGT-800 versions with power outputs of 47.5 and 50.5 MW. Contracts for the first six 53MW units have already been signed, Siemens said, and these units will be delivered to customer sites in the course of 2016.

As this month, 270 gas turbines of the model SGT-800 have been sold worldwide and the fleet has accumulated more than three million operating hours, according to Siemens.
