mt_ignoreAltaLink is Canada’s only fully independent transmission company, responsible for the maintenance and operation of approximately 11,600 kilometres of transmission lines and 260 substations in Alberta.

An opportunity exists for the position of:

Substation Technologist (Full-Time)

An entry level opportunity exists for a Substation Technologist with the Transmission Field Operations team in the Acheson office just west of Edmonton. This position will be part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the operation and maintenance of AltaLink’s transmission substations in Alberta.

The successful candidate will be expected to reside in the greater Edmonton vicinity.

Responsibilities
• Operate, inspect and maintain substation equipment associated with the AltaLink transmission system.
• Provide maintenance planning, schedulers and AltaLink Control Center staff with information regarding equipment status, and recommend improvements or replacements.
• Trouble response for stations facilities in the area.
Assist and support other disciplines as required.

Qualifications
• Diploma from a recognized technical school as an Electrical Technologist.
• Must have the ability to work in adverse weather conditions and have a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
• Be competent and comfortable working with computers and spreadsheets.
• Willing to develop skills and a career in the Substation Technologist discipline.
• Dedicated team player with strong interpersonal and communications skills.
• Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines.
• Demonstrate a willingness to work safely and show concern for environmental, health and safety issues in the workplace.
• Strong mechanical as well as electrical aptitude.
• Able to work comfortably at heights.
• Willing to accept out-of-town working conditions.
