RECALL: Ford’s 2016 E450 cutaway chassis cab model

February 1, 2016 | By Renée Francoeur

February 1, 2016 – Ford has issued a recall for its 2016 E450 cutaway chassis cab truck model. The company says the integrated trailer brake controller, during tow operation, may not actuate the trailer brakes when the driver depresses the brake pedal. This applies to the vehicles equipped with 6.8L engines and optional trailer brake controllers.

There would be no warning to the driver that vehicle braking does not actuate the trailer brakes, Ford says, which could increase stopping distances, potentially resulting in a crash causing injury and/or damage to property.

Dealers will reprogram the powertrain control module as a corrective measure. Ford notes this recall supersedes recall 2015-510. Vehicles repaired under the previous recall will require re-inspection and potential repair.
