RECALL: Seatbelt cable on GM’s 2014 Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500

April 19, 2016 | By Renée Francoeur

April 19, 2016 – Transport Canada has issued a recall for the 1500 Sierra and 1500 Silverado truck models from 2014 due to a seatbelt concern.

The flexible steel cable that connects the driver’s seat belt to the vehicle structure at the front outboard seating positions can fatigue over time and could separate, Transport Canada says, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.

GM says ealers will enlarge the side shield opening, install a pusher bracket on the tensioner, and if necessary, replace the tensioner assembly, to correct this.

108,604 units are affected, according to Transport Canada.
