RECALL: Vivint Remotec dimming switch modules

May 25, 2015 | By Renée Francoeur

May 25, 2015 – Vivint has issued a recall for dimming switch modules due to incorrectly installed wiring that poses a shock hazard.

The Remotec plug-in dimming and On/Off switch module, model ZDS-100US, was sold at authorized dealers across the U.S. and at www.vivint.com from April 2011 through to October 2014 for about $50.

It was sold separately or in home automation alarm systems that remotely control lighting and home appliances and act as a repeater that amplifies wireless signals. The off-white module plugs into the wall and measures about 5 in. long at the top, 4 in. long at the bottom, 2.45 in. high at the center and 1.39 in. wide at bottom. It has electric outlets on both sides and signal strength indicators at the top. Recalled modules have the first four digits of the serial numbers ranging from 1115 through 1440. Model and serial numbers are printed in black on the rear of the module.

About 213,000 units, which were manufactured in China, were involved. It is unknown how many, if any, units made it into Canada.
