BC roofers see increase in problematic electrical work

November 4, 2015 | By Anthony Capkun

November 4, 2015 – BC Safety Authority says the Roofing Contractors Association of British Columbia (RCABC) has reported an increase in occurrences of electrical raceways and cables being installed within, or adjacent to the underside of, roof systems or roof decks, making them subject to possible mechanical damage during roof installation or repairs.

Nails and screws used to penetrate the roofing from the top during the roof installation process could “easily penetrate electrical cables and raceways” installed within or adjacent to roof systems or decks, says BCSA, adding that this scenario could result in electrical shock or fire hazards.
