March 16, 2012 - Now entering its sixth year, Canada’s Best Diversity Employers recognizes employers across Canada that have exceptional workplace diversity and inclusiveness programs, and included in the list of 2012 winners are several electrical, energy and telecom organizations. Of the 2012 winners, we salute the following:
February 21, 2012 - Your smart phone uses broadband to connect you to the world but, when charging it, you’re relying on an electrical system that was designed and built in the era of the rotary phone. Because these systems are becoming outdated, too much electricity is slipping between our fingers, even as politicians highlight the need for “energy security”. Plus, generating power to keep up with increasing demand is getting harder because communities oppose new plants in their backyard.
Electrical Business recently had the opportunity to check out Acklands-Grainger’s “The Works” annual MRO & Safety Show in Toronto, Ont., and what an event!
January 23, 2012 - Itron Inc. and Cisco say they have created a secure, scalable and multi-service IPv6-based communications architecture through their new combined smart grid platform. This platform will help utilities accelerate adoption and simplify deployment of smart grid solutions, reduce the total cost of ownership of these systems, and unleash innovation for smart grid applications and technologies in the marketplace, they said.
January 9, 2012 - BC Hydro is looking for customers to share their opinions and influence the future of BC Hydro. As a panellist, you'll get an insider's view of some of BC Hydro's upcoming projects, participate in online surveys and discussions, help make business decisions and enter in draws for ongoing prizes.
January 3, 2012 - On a quiet summer evening just over six months ago, an extremely tall and heavy 230-kV transmission tower unexpectedly fell into the Fraser River just west of the Port Mann Bridge.

It shut off the lights for about 25,000 BC Hydro customers in Surrey and, due to unusually high water flows and unexpected erosion on the banks of the river, an adjacent 500-kV tower started to lean over the water and was also at risk of falling.
December 13, 2011 - Kwagis Power Limited Partnership (Brookfield Renewable Power Inc. and ‘Namgis First Nation) has received an environmental assessment certificate for the proposed Kokish River Hydroelectric Project.
December 12, 2011 - There are tens of thousands of skilled and soon-to-be skilled workers; this industry must hire to continue delivering reliable electricity to Canadian homes and businesses to meet our economy’s energy needs.
November 26, 2011 - Two tenders for early construction on the Evergreen Line were posted yesterday on BC Bid, one of which is for the installation of new underground BC Hydro powerlines in Port Moody and Coquitlam for construction and operation of the Evergreen Line. (The other is for the removal of two vacant buildings in Coquitlam, and one in Burnaby.)
November 26, 2011 - When Mike Colwill heard about BC Hydro’s Energy Fix contest, he knew it was a great fit for the 100-year-old Fernwood Inn he owns in Victoria with several co-investors. A $35,000 “energy makeover” would help them take a giant step toward the green principles they support.
