February 14, 2012 - Going to be at BICSI 2012 Winter Conference this week at Orlando, Fla.? AFL is launching its Noyes M210 QUAD OTDR (first photo), an "inspection-ready" hand-held OTDR that offers better performance, higher functional integration and an improved user experience over current OTDRs, it describes. The M210 includes an integrated Optical Power Meter, an integrated Visual Fault Identifier and support for a high-resolution Digital FiberScope. AFL is also introducing an improved high-density, sub-unitized MicroCore data center cable solution (second photo), available with 96 and 144 fibers in UL-compliant plenum, riser and IEC low-smoke zero halogen constructions.

Graybar Direct Attach solution at 2012 BICSI Winter Conference
February 9, 2012 - Graybar, a distributor of electrical, communications and data networking products and provider of related supply chain management and logistics services, has identified another method for network connections in commercial facilities, known as Direct Attach. According to Graybar, Direct Attach is a simpler, more secure solution than the traditional method for connecting IP network devices in certain building-system applications, such as security cameras, wireless access points and lighting controls. Also known as the single connector modified permanent link method, Direct Attach removes the jack and patch cord from a typical Ethernet connection and attaches the device directly to a modular plug on the end of the horizontal Ethernet cable.
Graybar will exhibit the solution at its booth at the 2012 BICSI Winter Conference and Exhibition, on February 12 to 16. NETcomm will be there, will you?

3M to demo new Crimplok+ Connector at 2012 BICSI Winter Conference
February 9, 2012 - Going to the BICSI Winter Conference and Exhibition next week in Orlando, Fla.? NETcomm will be there, and so will 3M's new Crimplok+ Connector, which the company claims can save time and money on enterprise and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network installations without sacrificing signal performance or reliability. The product will be on display at the 3M booth, giving attendees the chance to try out the connector for themselves. According to 3M, the Crimplok+ Connector is the first-known commercially available FTTx field-mounted connector for 900 µm singlemode fiber that meets indoor and outdoor performance requirements without a splice, gel or adhesive.
