April 23, 2012 - A recent survey by the NAW Institute for Distribution Excellence on behalf of Industrial Careers Pathway (ICP) finds that 91% of distribution firms surveyed plan to hire new employees within the next five years. “Firms in this industry are facing an unprecedented demographic, with three to four out of every 10 workers planning to retire within five years”, reads the release. That leaves not only a labour gap, but a brain drain for an industry where product application and process knowledge, and relationships with customers drive profitability.

Ceridian Canada helps small biz owners pay and manage people
February 16, 2012 - Are you a small business owner? Ceridian Canada Ltd., a human capital management solutions provider, has launched www.ceridiansmallbusiness.ca to provide small business owners with various tools and services to pay and manage their people when the need arises, by addressing issues such as employment law advice, recruiting, background checking, and training. The site also gives employers access to experienced HR advisors who can offer as-needed advice on subjects including payroll, employment standards compliance, recruitment and employee support. According to the company, the solution will result in up to a 9% reduction in labour costs for organizations with less than 50 employees. Customers who sign up before March 31, 2012, will get their payroll setup fee waived and first month of payroll processing free.

Electricity Sector Council report Recharging Our Workforce and new training website
November 22, 2011 - The Electricity Sector Council (ESC) released a new report today, “Recharging Our Workforce”, as well as a dedicated website that detail practical and tactical strategies to increase training capacity within the electricity industry. Developed as part of the Training & Learning Development (TLD) Project, this information is critical, says ESC, in light of the sheer volume of training that will need to occur in the industry over the coming decade.
