Future Building 2012 is an interactive, three-day exhibition provides young career-seekers with the opportunity to experience hands-on activities in all areas of the unionized construction sector, and showcases the partnerships between labour and management that help build Ontario’s future.

On March 21, Durham College hosted Tradesmart CareerFair 2012 at its Whitby, Ont., campus, bringing together those looking togged hired and those hiring in the trades and renewable energy fields. These photos here feature the booths from the Canadian Forces, International Brotherhood of Electrical Works - Local 894, Wes Vickery of Vickery Electric (and a fully-functional electric vehicle form 1977!), Celestica, Deep Foundations Contractors, Tradeability.ca, and Durham College Community Employment Services. February 16, 2012 - Horizon Utilities Corp., the utility that distributes electricity to homes and businesses in Hamilton and St. Catharines, Ont., recently achieved a “significant safety milestone for the second time since 2010”: one million hours worked without a lost-time injury. Well done!
EBMag was there as a special ceremony took place at CanSIA’s Solar Canada 2011, where CSA recognized that the solar PV training program delivered by the Electrical Contractors Association of Ontario / IBEW-Construction Council of Ontario (ECAO/IBEW-CCO)—and supported by NETCO—aligns to the body of knowledge required for the Construction Electrician (NOC 7241) Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems Certified personnel certification program.

Construction Electrician Solar PV Systems certification program promoted at Solar Canada 2011
December 6, 2011 (Updated December 8, 2011) - Earlier today at the Solar Canada 2011 Conference, CSA Standards and the National Electrical Trade Council (NETCO)—the joint training arm of the Canadian Electrical Contractors Association (CECA) and IBEW, First District, Canada—promoted the availability of a personnel certification program for journeyperson electricians installing and maintaining solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in Canada. VIDEO - Tour of new EJTC Training Centre in Port Coquitlam
November 9, 2011 - Last week, Electrical Business had the opportunity to visit the Electrical Joint Training Committee’s (EJTC’s) new training centre in Port Coquitlam, B.C. Our tour guide was Andy Cleven, the facility’s training director. This facility is truly a showpiece for advanced technologies enabling better classroom learning, while maintaining emphasis on practical skill.
