The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association’s (CEDIA) R10 Residential Systems committee have published CEA/CEDIA-CEB23 “Home Theatre Design”. This industry bulletin provides guidelines for calculating screen size and design systems for video devices, including HDTVs.

InfoComm publishing Certified Technology Specialist CTS Exam Guide

InfoComm International, a trade association representing the commercial audio/visual industry, is working with McGraw-Hill Professional to develop a resource to help candidates prepare for the Certified Technology Specialist (CTS) exam. The CTS Certified Technology Specialist Exam Guide will cover all exam content outline objectives and will include: objective callouts at the beginning of each chapter; exam tips; and practice questions with explanations. Featuring more than 300 photos and illustrations, the 816-page book will come with a CD-ROM containing two practice exams and an e-book. The guide is expected to be released this December, and will be available at major booksellers.

FOA (Fiber Optic Association) published a new textbook entitled, “FOA Reference Guide to Outside Plant Fiber Optics”, which has been designed to both train OSP fiber optic technicians studying for the new FOA OSP certification, and as a reference guide for anyone interested in OSP FO.

BICSI – an association supporting the information technology systems industry with information, education and knowledge assessment, announced the release of its newest standard: BICSI 002-2010 “Data Center Design and Implementation Best Practices.” The BICSI 002 addresses the lack of information on mechanical, electrical and telecommunications systems in general reference manuals or standards. Complementing existing standards, it includes requirements, recommendations and additional information that should be considered such as site selection, layout, thermal systems and security. The BICSI’s standards committee has over 200 members around the world and the Data Center Subcommittee was established in 2004. The BICSI 002 is available for purchase at their site below.

The ZigBee Alliance has made the draft 0.7 document of ZigBee Smart Energy (Version 2.0) available for public download and comment. This draft is being provided in conjunction with the alliance’s previously announced commitment to collect public comments on the standard in addition to the input from the stakeholder community already engaged in its development.

The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) published three new industry technical standards to provide cable operators with “new reliability tools to ensure, measure and improve the customer experience”. These recommended practices are the first in a planned series of standards designed to provide a common method for verifying the health of digital cable networks.
