Exfo adds web browser and IPTV capabilities to VDSL2 test set
Exfo Inc. launched an enhanced broadband service test suite for its MaxTester DSL. Specifically designed for first-line technicians, the MaxTester DSL provides the desired combination of DSL and Ethernet interfaces, says the company, making it “ideal for testing in both the outside copper plant and the residential triple-play environment”. To increase productivity, the MaxTester DSL comes with an optional IPTV test suite and web browser. With the IPTV test suite, technicians can save their most commonly used channels to automatically join the selected channels and verify their availability as well as their quality of service (QoS). As for the integrated browser, it maximizes the use of the MaxTester DSL's six-inch colour LCD screen to show web content. It can also be used to demonstrate website connectivity and access internal technician sites for additional testing or job management.

Exfo launches SyncWatch-110 synchronization testing unit
February 05, 2011
Exfo Inc. launched the SyncWatch-110 synchronization testing unit, a test and monitoring solution for next-generation synchronization technologies, including performance assessment of synchronous ethernet (SyncE) and Precision Time protocol (IEEE 1588v2). As mobile backhaul networks evolve to support packet-based transmission, maintaining accurate synchronization becomes critical to network performance, says Exfo;. if left unchecked, synchronization errors can cause a loss of data, reduced network capacity and dropped calls. The SyncWatch-110’s software engine is capable of analyzing the IEEE 1588v2 timing packets and reporting on a number of packet metrics. It also supports different modes of operation for testing that is adapted to service-provider applications, allowing users to leverage it for the entire network lifecycle.

Exfo adds full ODU0 and ODUflex to 10G and 40G Transport Blazer
November 3, 2010
Exfo has added full ODU0 and ODUflex capabilities to its next-generation 10G and 40G Transport Blazer test module series. ODU0 provides new mapping for the transport of 1 Gbit/s ethernet signals with multiplexing capability up to 100 GB; it allows for OTN networks to be backward-compatible with the industry-installed base, and is optimized for Gigabit ethernet clients and transport of client signals with a rate below 1.238 Gbit/s. ODUflex, meantime, includes higher efficiency for network configuration and bandwidth allocation, says Exfo, providing a future-proof solution for the transport of any client signal at any rate. It enables technology shared by network equipment manufacturers, service provider labs and field-testing crews, and is critical for deploying next-generation packet optical transport networks. The ODU0 and ODUflex capabilities are available as a software option for all Transport Blazer OTN test modules.

Fluke latest Network Time Machine hardware platform - Oct2010
November 3, 2010
Fluke Networks has released its latest Network Time Machine hardware platforma network forensics recorder for “back-in-time” analysis. Leveraging its application-centric analysis technology, NTM helps engineers get to the heart of performance problems across all applications. With NTM’s data recorder, data centre staff can store data for days, weeks or months (depending on traffic load); the next step in performing network forensics is analyzing the data and, with NTM, engineers can review and extract information to analyze past events and the traffic leading up to, or causing, specific problems. Network Time Machine now offers Advanced Capacity Management (ACM), a frame de-duplication feature that eliminates the unnecessary capture of redundant data, maximizing disk capacity and allowing engineers to store and extract the exact information they need for analysis.
