Intertec Basic Vario glass reinforced polyester enclosures
December 12, 2010
Intertec unveiled the Basic Vario range of wall-/floor-mount enclosures, constructed using the company’s sandwich-construction technique with GRP (glass-reinforced polyester) skins enclosing a thick layer of insulating foam. This construction delivers a K value rating of about 1.5W/m2K, which protects against frost and condensation, and/or provides regulated temperature environments for field instrumentation. Basic Vario provides a rectangular-shaped enclosure in a choice of three standard sizes, with a depth of 13.8 in. The enclosures meet IP65 ingress protection (with Type 4X approval pending) and are fitted with a hinged door (with or without windows). Tube and cable entry is flexible, and can be made through the rear or any of the four sides.

Hammond Mfg 1555F range of IP67 wall-mounted enclosures
November 26, 2010
Hammond says its new 1555F family of IP67-sealed enclosures is designed for wall mounting PCB- or DIN rail-based equipment (such as security components, control equipment and radio repeaters) in harsh industrial environments or outdoor applications. The units are available in RAL 7035 Light Grey and moulded in either general purpose ABS or flameproof polycarbonate. Standoffs are moulded into both the lid and the base and, apart from in the two smallest sizes, DIN rail mounting tabs are also provided. The bottom of the base features a moulded recess for a membrane keyboard or label. The initial six sizes range from 120 x 66 x 42 mm to 159 x 91 x 62 mm; all lids are fitted with captive M4 stainless steel screws that engage with stainless steel inserts in the base, allowing repetitive assembly and disassembly. Environmental sealing is achieved through a tongue-and-groove design and a moulded silicon rubber gasket; all fixings are outside the gasket seal.

Pentair Technical Products Hoffman Proline airflow containment system
November 16, 2010
Pentair Technical Products introduced the Hoffman brand Proline containment system, designed to segregate cold (intake) and hot (exhaust) air. Consisting of aisle doors, ceiling panels and chimney stacks, the containment system can be used for hot or cold air containment, preventing the air from mixing which, says the company, can lead to poor cooling and wasted energy. By increasing cooling efficiency, the system manages a higher thermal density without requiring additional cooling units. Available for use on raised or non-raised floors in small to large data centres, the system is designed for use with the company’s line of Proline cabinets (but can be modified to work with alternative enclosure brands). The Proline containment system accommodates 36-in. and 48-in. aisles. With ergonomically positioned interior and exterior grab handles, safety glass and interior lighting, the aisle doors allow complete accessibility and visibility of network equipment.

Stewart Connector RoHS-compliant SS-39200 Cat 6a 8P8C modular plugs
November 9, 2010
Stewart Connector released the RoHS-compliant SS-39200 Series of Cat 6a 8P8C modular plugsthe latest addition to the company’s portfolio of connectors engineered for a “range of high-speed networking and computing applications”. The SS-39200 Series’ mechanical design comprises both a wire aligner and load bar to facilitate consistent twisted pair orientation during assembly. The aligner is designed with a patent-pending “cross talk zone” that introduces an amount of cross-talk to the plug to allow for centred NEXT (Near End Crosstalk) performance (as per IEC 60603-7-51 component requirements and ANSI/TIA-568-B.2-10 transmission performance specs for 4-pair 100Ω Cat 6a cabling. Parts accommodate typical 24-ga to 27-ga solid or stranded cable. Plug, load bar and wire aligner are manufactured of UL94-V0 polycarbonate and feature 50 gold-plated contacts. Additional specs include an operating temperature range of -40ºC to +85ºC, and durability of 750 matching cycles. Voltage rating is 150vAC while the current rating is 1.5A @ 25ºC.

Banner Engineering WLS28 work light strip for enclosures
November 9, 2010
Banner Engineering Corp.’s WLS28 work light strip is a low-profile lighting solution for industrial control cabinets and work cells. The LED work light features a slender aluminum housing, and is available in various lengths from 5.7 in. to 44.5 in., all of which share the same width of 1.1 in. The WLS28 consumes less than 9W per linear foot and, when used within its specs, should last about 50,000 hours of continuous operation. Swivel mounting brackets are included to increase installation flexibility, allowing users to pivot the light 45° in either direction. The strip is available in cabled and quick-disconnect models, as well as stand-alone and cascadable models.

Brady Canada unveils BBP 31 sign and label printer
November 3, 2010
Brady’s BBP 31 is an industrial 4-in. monochrome sign and label printer. With an “intuitive display” and “smart chip” auto-calibration supplies, users can simply type their desired text and hit print, creating a label in as little as two steps. “There’s no need to pick a label size, adjust your fonts or calibrate the printer... that’s all done for you,” says Brady. The BBP 31 also offers a range of advanced editing and design capabilities and a database of 200+ symbols. It can operate as either a stand-alone unit or connected to a PC. It has a library of pre-made labels as well as several design wizards for creating common label types. Materials include specialty tapes, pre-printed signs, raised profile labels, etc.

Greenlee Paladin Tools Jack Terminator
November 3, 2010
Greenlee boasts terminating Cat 5 and UTP communications cables into standard wall jacks just got easier with Paladin Tools new Jack Terminator. In one action, four pairs of wires are terminated while built-in blades cut off excess wire, eliminating the need for a secondary trim step. The Jack Terminator is made from high-grade steel with rubber embedded grips for extra comfort. The ratcheted action ensures consistent termination, while an adjustable feature provides extra leverage applications. The removable jack cradle allows for alternative lacing options. The patented spring-engaged blades terminate wires at the optimal stroke, says Greenlee; the blades themselves are concealed for added safety. The quick-change punch sets require no tools and additional punch sets can be purchased separately.

Schneider APC announces InfraStruxure for scalable efficient data centres
October 8, 2010
APC by Schneider Electric announced the “next-generation” InfraStruxurea scalable and adaptable data centre architecture that, says the company, reduces cycle time and complexity from concept to design to installation. InfraStruxure integrates power, cooling, racks, security and management in a modular form factor, and is a building block of Schneider Electric’s energy management architecture portfolio, EcoStruxure. The new generation of InfraStruxure promises a 25% increase in power and cooling capacity and a 15% smaller footprint, while reducing cost by 15%. A core feature of the InfraStruxure architecture is the management software, which provides an open, vendor-neutral platform. New capabilities include: Symmetra PX 100kW, 250kW and 500kW double-conversion UPS with internal modular design; modular power distribution unit (PDU); InRow OA and refrigerant distribution unit (RDU); and NetShelter SX networking enclosures.

Schneider Square D PowerLogic BCPM split-core CT option
October 8, 2010
Schneider Electric announced a new option for the Square D PowerLogic branch circuit power meter (BCPM) family that monitors branch circuits and mains in power distribution units and remote power panels. The PowerLogic BCPM was previously available only with solid-core CT strips; now, there’s a split-core CT option, offering “more installation flexibility” and making it “ideal for retrofit applications”. Both versions of the BCPM give a granular view of power and energy use for maximum uptime, accurate cost allocation, and infrastructure optimization in a data centre environment. The PowerLogic BCPM provides an in-depth view of an electrical system, reducing the possibility of a breaker trip. Customizable alarms let operators set sensitivity parameters so an alarm is triggered any time that the load approaches the breaker limit.
