May 23, 2012 - UL is notifying Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), electrical contractors and consumers that the fluorescent ballasts identified below may pose a fire hazard. The products do not comply with UL’s safety requirements for Canada or the United States.
May 23, 2012 - UL is notifying consumers and retailers that a Power Fist 50-ft worklight string bears a counterfeit UL Mark for Canada and the United States. The product has not been evaluated by UL to the appropriate safety standard, so it is unknown whether the product complies with UL safety requirements for Canada and the States.
April 10, 2012 - Phoenix Products Company has launched the ModCom series, an instant-on, surface-mounted LED fixture designed to replace high wattage HID floodlights. The LED luminaire delivers up to 25,000 lumens and offers a 70% energy savings when compared to a 1000W HPS fixture, it adds. The series is IP 67 rated and ETL/cETL certified to UL 1598, 1598A Marine Outside Type (Saltwater) and CSA C22.2 No. 250.0.

April 10, 2012 - Halco Lighting Technologies has introduced its 16W ProLED PAR38 lamps which claim to offer high power LED with superior optics and thermal construction for long life and energy efficient illumination. According to the company, the lamps are 82% more efficient than 90W Halogen PAR38s over the life of the ProLED lamp, and produce up to 1020 lumens. The bulbs are UL rated for damp locations.

April 4, 2012 - UL (Underwriters Laboratories) is acquiring DEWI—a player in wind energy measurement and testing services—from the German state of Lower Saxony.
March 9, 2012 - Halco Lighting Technologies has introduced the ProLED PAR30 lamps, featuring a single point light source for improved colour uniformity and optical control, it says. According to Halco, these dimmable 13W lamps are 83% more efficient than 75W Halogen PAR30 over the life of the ProLED lamp. The bulbs are UL rated for damp locations, and are available in 3000K and 5000K with flood and narrow flood beam spreads.

AFL is launching its Noyes M210 QUAD OTDR (first photo), an "inspection-ready" hand-held OTDR that offers better performance, higher functional integration and an improved user experience over current OTDRs, it describes. The M210 includes an integrated Optical Power Meter, an integrated Visual Fault Identifier and support for a high-resolution Digital FiberScope. AFL is also introducing an improved high-density, sub-unitized MicroCore data center cable solution (second photo), available with 96 and 144 fibers in UL-compliant plenum, riser and IEC low-smoke zero halogen constructions.

February 9, 2012 - To help protect against exposed electrical systems in the event a streetlight gets knocked down, Ideal Industries has introduced its SLK Disconnect Fuse Kit, a waterproof breakaway safety device that de-energizes roadway lights, streetlights, parking lot lights and electrical vehicle charging stations. The kit also aims to protect service personnel who are performing maintenance. The fuse stays on the de-energized load side when separated, which helps to protect those nearby as well. The kit is listed to UL's ECIS category for special purpose connectors.
