May 6, 2013 - The National Association of Electrical Distributors (NAED) has announced several enhancements to its web-based learning management system, such as new content, a rating and comment section, enhanced assignment capabilities and streaming video for improved user experience. Branch Management University (BMU) and EPEC Lighting programs are two brand new programs that have recently been added to the NAED Learning Center. BMU is a three-level training program to help managers meet branch goals and become better leaders, while EPEC Lighting is the first NAED EPEC level that focuses on one specific product line that is targeted to the lighting professional. New content has also been added to the VIP Access Core, Sales, and Leadership subscription programs to better address the development needs of industry associates in areas such as time management, presentations and stress management, adds NAED. Students of the Voice-Data-Video (VDV) course for electrical distribution and the new Selling & Communicating to All Generations courses can now view the program on a tablet.

January 9, 2013 - Fluke Networks has released the TS54 TDR telephone test set, claiming to be 62% lighter and 20% more cost effective than other similar solutions on the market. The TS54 tester, which combines voice, data and video testing functions into one tool, also passes a 20-ft. concrete drop test, adds Fluke. It also features open/short circuit detection to 3,000 ft., a built-in toner with five tones, SmartTone functionality for pair identification, and glow in the dark keys and backlit LCD screen.

July 16, 2012 - The new Ideal Signaltek II claims to be a cost-effective solution to qualifying network bandwidth, saving cable installers money by using a single multifunction tester for copper, fiber and PoE. Designed for small- to medium-sized LANs, Signaltek II will validate that copper or fiber cabling is capable of supporting bandwidth-heavy voice, data, video (VDV) and IP-based video surveillance applications over 10/100 Megabit or Gigabit Ethernet. It then generates documentation verifying network connectivity and job completion to initiate customer payment.

June 18, 2012 - Ideal Industries claims its new Test-Tone-Trace kit gives installers and system technicians all the tools they need to accurately identify wiring errors in virtually any type of VDV application. Neatly packaged in a custom carrying case, the tool kit performs cable testing functions required in the security, data/network, and a/v markets. At the centre of the kit is the VDV multimedia tester, which features an LCD screen to display pass/fail results and notification of wiring errors that require repair.
