May 7, 2013 - On April 29, NB Power’s Point Lepreau Generating Station once again began sending energy to the provincial electricity grid. The reactor was at 35% power and fuelling was expected to resume this coming week.
May 3, 2013 - The Ontario Waterpower Association (OWA) yesterday congratulated Bracebridge Generation Ltd. on the completion of upgrades to the Wilson’s Falls and Bracebridge Falls generating stations.
March 21, 2013 - Ontario is now harnessing more electricity from Niagara Falls through the completed 10-km+ Niagara Tunnel Project, which is channelling additional water from the Niagara River to the Sir Adam Beck Generating Station at a rate of 500 m3/s.
February 8, 2013 - The British Columbia Utilities Commission has approved the replacement of the John Hart generating station near Campbell River, saying it is “the most cost-effective option to address the significant reliability, seismic, environmental and fisheries issues associated with the 66-year-old facility”.
July 19, 2012 - Ontario is moving forward with the conversion of the Atikokan Generating Station from coal to biomass, boasting it will create 200 construction jobs and help protect existing jobs at the plant. The province also says the generating station will be among the largest biomass-fired electricity-generating facilities in the world.
July 10, 2012 - Today, Chris Bentley, Ontario’s minister of energy, announced the contentious Greenfield South Power natural gas plant will be relocated to Ontario Power Generation’s (OPG) Lambton Generating Station site at a cost of about $180 million.
July 3, 2012 - Ontario Power Generation (OPG) recently celebrated 100 years of hydroelectric generation at the Wawaitin, Ontario site. Placed into service in June 1912 to produce electricity for local mines in the early days of the Porcupine Camp, the original Wawaitin GS continued to generate electricity for the people of Ontario until March 1, 2010, at which time, at the end of its service life, it was replaced with a new generating station at the same location.
November 26, 2011 - NB Power and AECL teams continue to work around the clock to complete all project activities safely and with the quality expected by New Brunswickers to complete the retubing activities by May 2012, announced NB Power. After the commissioning activities are completed, the Point Lepreau generating station is expected to return to service by Fall 2012 and deliver safe and reliable power to New Brunswick for the next 25 to 30 years.
