April 29, 2013 - Steinel America says its new IR Quattro HD presence detector features a mechanically scalable square detection zone, which enables coverage zones to be clearly planned without overlapping or gaps and with no detection in neighbouring passageways. The IR Quattro HD mounts on a ceiling and turns lights on and off automatically in response to occupancy and to changes in light levels. Its square design provides a square coverage zone incorporating four digital pyroelectric sensors, while the lens optical design provides 4800 switching zones resulting in much greater precision in detection.
March 19, 2013 - Acuity Brands’ Peerless Lighting has introduced the Staple suite of suspended and wall-mount luminaires, boasting modern design, comfortable illumination, efficient performance and energy-saving controls options for a wide range of indoor applications. Available for either T8 or T5/T5HO lamps of 4-ft, 8-ft and 12-ft lengths, Staple luminaires can be installed as individual units or joined together to form continuous runs. According to Peerless, Staple luminaires are more than 90% efficient—when specified for single T8 lamps and spaced 10-ft apart on-centre in a typical 60-ft x 40-ft open office, Staple luminaires use as low as .60W/sf while delivering 31 foot candles on a 2.5-ft high work surface. The luminaires can also be specified with one or more of the following options: integrated nLight micro sensor; Microphonics technology for occupancy on/off control; and nLight module for row, room, building or campus-wide network connectivity and control.
February 21, 2013 - Lumenpulse’s entire indoor and outdoor LED product lines will soon be embedded with Lutron Electronics’ EcoSystem technology. EcoSystem is a lighting control system comprised of digitally addressable dimming ballasts and LED drivers, controls, and environmental sensors, which boasts energy savings from 40% to 70%. Under the new agreement, the EcoSystem solution can, for the first time, be applied to both indoor and outdoor lighting.
January 25, 2013 - Leviton has introduced its new line of residential occupancy and vacancy sensors, available in Automatic-On (Occupancy) or Manual-On (Vacancy) switching, for LED, CFL, fluorescent, incandescent, halogen or motor loads. The sensors help manage energy consumption and costs by ensuring that lights/loads turn off automatically when a space is unoccupied and motion is no longer detected within the covered range, says the company.

January 23, 2013 - In cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC in the States), Siemens is voluntarily recalling certain temperature and humidity sensors for schools, hospitals and other buildings due to fire hazard. You should stop using the product immediately, unless otherwise instructed.
January 9, 2013 - Alumen8A has developed the Curl series of ceiling-suspended direct or direct/indirect T5 curved pendant luminaires. According to Alumen8A, the pendants serve as a replacement for interior HID (High-Intensity Discharge), T12 fluorescent, incandescent and halogen light fixtures. Available in 2-ft., 3-ft., 4-ft. or 8-ft. individual fixtures or 12-ft., 16-ft., 20-ft. or 24-ft. joined rows. Users can also choose between a button occupancy sensor, daylight-harvesting function, emergency ballasts, and dimming options.

January 2, 2013 - The ZigBee Alliance has completed development and ratified the ZigBee Light Link standard, offering wireless control for various LED lighting solutions. According to the Alliance, light bulbs, LED fixtures, sensors, timers, remotes and switches built using ZigBee Light Link will easily connect into a single network, without special devices to coordinate the network. ZigBee Light Link devices can be controlled over the internet through computers, tablets and smartphones.

December 31, 2012 - The new Lithonia Lighting W series luminaires boast occupancy sensors that maximize energy savings in low-traffic or low-occupancy areas, such as corridors, stairwells and restrooms. The luminaires automatically turn on or off as occupants ascend and descend stairs, walk corridors or enter a seldom used space, helping to reduce energy consumption by not lighting the space when it is not in use. The series is available with LED or fluorescent lamps and can be configured for surface or wall mount applications.

November 19, 2012 - Fluke Networks has announced the new AirMagnet Enterprise SmartEdge Sensor Series 4, a dedicated sensor for Wi-Fi network monitoring which claims to eliminate the need for Ethernet cabling, and reduces the cost by up to two thirds in situations where cable installation is prohibitive from a time, cost or logistics perspective. With three internal radios and Wireless Connect feature, the SmartEdge Sensor Series 4 for AirMagnet Enterprise extends Wi-Fi security and performance monitoring, providing immediate coverage in the face of explosive wireless LAN (WLAN) growth and the Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) phenomena, says Fluke. The sensor also features increased memory capacity and support for 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet.

August 27, 2012 - Halco Lighting Technologies has introduced its ProLume High Performance programmed start T8 ballasts, claiming to help maximize lamp life, facilitate maintenance and decrease energy costs. Designed for use in buildings with occupancy or daylight sensors and in applications with frequent on/off switching, the T8 ballasts operate in parallel mode, so that when one lamp in a fixture fails, the remaining lamps continue operating. Low ballast factor models EP232PS/L/MV/HE and EP432PS/L/MV/HE can provide an additional 13-15% energy savings, says Halco. The ballasts are NEMA Premium designated and CEE listed.
