March 22, 2013 - Leviton has added a 20A version to its USB charger receptacle offering, featuring a 20A/125V tamper-resistant receptacle for high-current devices and boasting the same 2.1A of charging power as its 15A counterpart. The device can charge two USB-powered electronic devices utilizing its two USB ports, leaving the 20A tamper-resistant receptacle free to power devices requiring higher currents. The USB ports are Type A, 2.0/3.0 and incorporate a smart chip which recognizes and optimizes the charging power of the device plugged in. It is engineered to fit in a standard wallbox, use a standard wallplate and can be multi-ganged with any standard Leviton wiring device, says the company. The device is 2011 NEC compliant and certified to the applicable Canadian and U.S. standards by UL.
March 14, 2013 - Hubbell Wiring Device-Kellems (a division of Hubbell Inc.) has added tamper-resistant USB charger duplex receptacles to its line of wiring devices. Designed to provide more charging options for today’s personal electronics, the USB charger receptacles provide USB and electrical power in a standard single-gang electrical opening. The receptacle includes dual 3A/5V USB ports and two Hubbell tamper-resistant 15A/125VAC power outlets, which can be used simultaneously. Compliant with battery charging specification USB BC1.2 and compatible with USB 1.1/2.0/3.0 devices, these devices charge various handheld devices, such as tablets, smartphones, MP3 players and other USB-compatible devices. The receptacles feature Hubbell’s StyeLine Decorator flush-fit design that fits into most standard single-gang plastic or metal boxes, as well as a green LED light to indicate available USB power.
September 28, 2012 - Cooper Wiring Devices has debuted its USB Duplex Tamper Resistant (TR) receptacle, which it says replaces the standard AC duplex receptacle and eliminates the need for bulky adapters by offering two integrated USB ports. Suited for both commercial and residential applications, the receptacle is available in 15A and 20A. The product is cULus listed to UL498 and UL1310, File No. E15058.

September 5, 2012 - The new Patrol Combination Nightlight GFCI receptacle from Cooper Wiring Devices claims to be one of the safest alternatives currently on the market. Designed for residential and commercial applications, the tamper-resistant (TR) solution includes a lockout feature that renders the receptacle inoperable if improperly wired or tripped and denies power and prevents resetting if no longer providing GFCI protection, says the company. Also included in the receptacle is a light sensor that automatically turns the nightlight On or Off depending on light levels. The product is cULus listed.
