RECALL: Lithonia CFMK surface-mount brackets due to injury hazard

August 21, 2020 | By Anthony Capkun

August 20, 2020 – In a joint recall with Health Canada and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Lithonia Lighting is recalling certain CFMK surface-mount brackets, which can fail to securely mount the fixture, thereby allowing the fixture to fall unexpectedly, posing a risk of injury.

The recall involves metal CFMK H-brackets that are screwed into the ceiling and used to surface-mount CPANL LED fixtures. The CFMK bracket was included as an optional mounting accessory with 1×4, 2×4 and 2×2 CPANLs.

As of August 13, 2020, the company has received two (2) reports of failing brackets in Canada, and no reports of injury. In the United States, the company has received 22 reports of failing brackets, and 1 report of minor injury.

Roughly 299 units of the affected product were sold in Canada, and about 318,000 were sold in the United States between August 2018 and June 2020.

If you are affected by this recall, immediately stop using the recalled product and contact Lithonia Lighting for a free CFMK bracket repair kit (with installation instructions). You should also prevent people from going into the immediate area under the fixtures until the brackets are repaired.

For more information, contact Lithonia Lighting at 855-307-2454 Monday to Thursday, or visit the company’s website to order a free repair kit.

Remember: the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada.
