September 15, 2016 | By Renée Francoeur

September 15, 2016 – From slick chrome chandeliers to practical LED downlights, there were all kinds of winners for the 2016 Lighting for Tomorrow Awards, announced through a webinar hosted by the American Lighting Association earlier this week. Congratulations to all!

Grand prize ribbons went to the American Lighting Trulux system and the Blackjack Lighting Seraph chandelier, and from among the decorative fixture submissions, the judges selected two honourable mentions: the Hinkley Lighting Hadley 3308CM ceiling mount fixture and the LBL Lighting Torque 27 pendant.

The Functional Lighting category resulted in five winners and two honourable mention distinctions. The winners are:

Acuity Brands Lighting Super LED garage light,
AFX Slate Pro Edge,
Ambiance Lighting Systems Lucarne LED Niche light,
Juno Lighting Group (an Acuity Brands Company) 4-in. sloped ceiling LED downlights, and
WAC Lighting landscape accent light.

The honourable mentions went to EcoSense Trove LED linear platform and the AFX Carlisle fixture, and the Carlisle also earned distinction as the best product in the Contractor Lighting section.

The products awarded the designation of “Filling a Market Need” are products that are newly available using LED technology or represent product types “in which the quality of LED performance has increased noticeably”. These are:

Globe Electric Company 73191 B-type LED vintage bulb,
MaxLite LED warm-on-dim BR30 lamp,
WAC Lighting landscape in-ground light, and
WAC Lighting Aether shallow 3.5-in. recessed downlight.

“We are grateful to be recognized by esteemed members of the lighting and energy community for being a contributing part of the bigger solutions needed to reach our global energy saving goals. Thank you,” said WAC Lighting president Shelley Wald. “Our products aim to solve specific problems that were not well addressed before, so the applications actually dictate the product solutions.”

The products that are awarded the “Value” designation are examples of “high-quality lighting at a price point similar to incumbent, less efficient technology”. Those winners include:

Acuity Brands LED contemporary vanity/sconce,
AFX Sloane,
Globe Electric 62591 fixture and LED filament bulb, and the
MaxLite 3-Way omnidirectional A-lamp.

Established in 2002, Lighting for Tomorrow states it is a competition that challenges manufacturers to develop residential lighting products that incorporate advances in both design and energy efficiency.
