3M announces sensored termination QX-series

January 6, 2014 | By Alyssa Dalton

January 6, 2014 – The 3M Electrical Markets Division has released a sensing solution which it says will provide power utilities with real-time monitoring to support grid automation in underground distribution networks.

The 3M sensored termination QX-series supports applications such as volt/VAR optimization (VVO), fault detection, isolation and restoration (FDIR), asset management and load balancing. The sensored termination is designed to provide highly accurate voltage and current data through simple retrofits of existing power equipment, such as switchgear and transformers, says 3M, adding that this data is a key requirement for enhancing the reliability and efficiency of the grid. The solution boasts accurate voltage and current waveforms in real-time; quick and easy installation; and factory calibration.
