EATON AND SPIERING RECHARGE THE 2007 ULTIMATE POWER TRIP

Eaton Corp.’s electrical business (Canadian Operations) has announced drag racing personality Carl Spiering will be back for 2007 flying the Eaton colours. Driving the Eaton supercharged pro-modified 1967 Chevrolet Camaro, Spiering finished 7th in the 2006 season in the IHRA eMax Nitro Jam drag racing series. Known in racing circles as the “Big Dog”, the 42-year old driver hails from Jordan Station, Ont.

“We are very excited to start our sixth full season supporting Carl Spiering and his racing operation,” said Rob Conway, national marketing manager for Eaton’s electrical business in Canada, adding, “There is no question that we've found a successful marketing formula in a form of motorsport entertainment that our customers have found extremely exciting.” Conway says the company continues to be overwhelmed by the support from its customers and distributor partners. “Their involvement and support in this major initiative is critical to its success,” said Conway.

OEL’S 2007 ELECTRICAL INDUSTRY CONFERENCE FAST APPROACHING

Hosted this year by the Essex and Kent Chapters, the Ontario Electrical League’s (OEL’s) electrical industry conference kicks off with an early game of golf (April 18) at the Kingsville Golf & Country Club, followed by a wine and cheese reception at the hotel.

Conference sessions run from April 19-21 and, in addition to the various presentations and workshops, you’ll enjoy Thursday’s Recognition Awards Dinner, Friday’s Product Expo/Lunch & Learn (in conjunction with Contractor Day), Friday’s South of the Border Dinner/Dance plus Saturday’s prize extravaganza and a grand prize draw for a seven-day cruise for two.

The conference is being held at the Windsor Hilton Hotel. CLICK HERE for more information.

EFC SURPASSES LAST YEAR’S CONTRIBUTION TO LOCAL CHARITY

Electro-Federation Canada (EFC) exceeded last year’s donation to the CHUMCity Christmas Wish. The association held a toy drive at its Ontario Christmas reception, which brought together over 310 delegates from the industry, and where members and staff helped raise over $1900 in donations and collected over 250 toys for the charity.

“EFC has been contributing to the CHUMCity Christmas Wish for two consecutive years,” says Milos Jancik, EFC’s president and CEO, adding that, to-date, EFC has donated over $2600 and collected nearly 500 toys for The Wish.

The CHUMCity Christmas Wish is one of the largest distributors of toys to those in need in the Greater Toronto Area. Last year, The Wish and the City of Toronto Community and Neighbourhood Social Services helped nearly 500 registered agencies provide toys and funds to 300,000+ children and families.

B.C. WEBSITE TALKS TO TEENS ABOUT TRADES

Thanks to a website sponsored by the province’s Industry Training Authority (ITA), British Columbia’s young people have a new way to find out about careers in the trades.

Launched as a micro site, The Skilled Life [http://www.theskilledlife.com] will be further developed with more information and interactive tools, and complements three existing ITA programs.

“Choosing a career path when you’re in grade 10 to 12 is a huge decision,” said Brian Clewes, CEO of the Industry Training Authority, “and young people have told us that they need a source that speaks to them in their own terms about careers in the trades. We’ve developed this site to talk to them about their options in a way that’s both informative and entertaining.”
