Pole-digger dies from electrical contact

An electrical contact incident on Hwy 7, just east of Dufferin Street in Vaughan, Ont. last week took the life of a 25-year-old employee of PGC Services. According to PowerStream, the incident involved unintentional contact with overhead high-voltage electrical distribution lines by hydrovac excavation equipment. >> Read full article

2015 Ontario Electrical Safety Code now available

The 2015 edition of the Ontario Electrical Safety Code has been finalized and is now available for purchase, says the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA). The Code comes into effect as regulation on May 5, 2016. The print edition is $219 and the digital format sells for $195. >> Read full article

Defective CFLs cost Philips $2-million civil penalty

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says Philips Lighting North America Corp. has agreed to pay a $2-million civil penalty to the government to settle charges that the company knowingly failed to report to CPSC information about a defect and a risk of injury with EnergySaver CFLs (a.k.a. Year overdue and $18-million over budget... but finally finished

A year overdue and about $18-million over budget, BC Hydro reports the new, high-voltage Interior to Lower Mainland transmission line is finished. The 247-km, 500kV powerline stretches from Merritt to Coquitlam, and will help bring power from the Peace and Columbia rivers to over 3.2 million people on the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island. >> Read full article
