Yukon Energy says Yes to LED streetlighting

Following a 5-year long pilot project in Dawson City and Mendenhall, Yukon Energy reports it will begin replacing all of its existing streetlights with LEDs in Dawson City. Later in the year it will install LED streetlights in the rest of Yukon Energy’s service areas, including Mayo, Faro, Champagne and Mendenhall. The Dawson project alone should see a reduction of around 32MWh annually, says the utility. >> Read full article

Nova Scotia helps out apprentices

The Nova Scotia government is launching a procurement pilot to encourage businesses to hire apprentices. The pilot was developed in partnership with the Construction Association of Nova Scotia and requires that contractors bidding on provincially funded construction projects take part in the province’s apprenticeship program. >> Read full article

TE releases hot-melt Raychem S1260 tape

TE Connectivity has released new Raychem S1260 hot-melt tape adhesive for high-temperature wire and cable repairs. The S1260 tape uses an environmentally resistant modified fluoropolymer for sealing high-temperature heat-shrink components to backshells, according to TE, and is well suited for power cables with fluoropolymer and fluoroelastomer insulations and jackets. >> Read full article
