ABB invests $40 million to meet demand for Elastimold solutions

March 30, 2023 | By Anthony Capkun

March 30, 2023 – ABB is investing $40 million in Albuquerque, N.M., toward a new Installation Products Division manufacturing facility for the production of Elastimold cable accessory solutions.

“Continuing to grow our U.S. manufacturing operations and distribution network accelerates our ability to deliver high-demand electrical products our partners rely on to manage today’s needs and prepare for tomorrow’s energy demands,” said Matthias Heilmann, president, ABB Installation Products Division.

With over 75,000 miles of underground cabling estimated to be in place by 2040 across the U.S. alone, ABB says the new facility will meet anticipated demand for its Elastimold solutions, which are “essential to wildfire mitigation, as well as underground and grid-hardening projects that power homes, businesses and communities in a safe and reliable way”.

Planning and construction of the new 90,000-sf facility is underway and expected to be complete in 2024. It will be located on ABB’s 40-acre site in Albuquerque, and joins an existing Installation Products manufacturing facility that opened in 1973.

Expected to employ about 55 people, the new facility will include ABB Robotics technology and digital automation to produce more than 1 million additional units annually.
