ABB launches new generation 145kV gas-insulated switchgear

October 30, 2013 | By Anthony Capkun

October 30, 2013 – ABB launched its new generation 145kV gas-insulated switchgear (GIS); its modular design makes it faster and easier to install, says the company.

The new GIS design enables a reduction of SF6 insulating gas by as much as 60% and the weight by 13% compared to its predecessor, boasts ABB, adding frontal access provides easier operation and improved serviceability. The horizontal 3-phase enclosure with single-phase insulators further facilitates overall accessibility. The system has been designed for a rated voltage of 145kV, and can handle a rated current of up to 3150A; it is capable of providing protection to power networks with rated short-circuit currents up to 40kA.
