Acuity Brands receives expanded NVLAP accreditations for LM-79 testing of LED luminaires

July 4, 2011 – Acuity Brands has received expanded accreditation from the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) for testing of LED products for conformance to the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) LM-79 standard. According to Acuity, the enhanced accreditation enables it to meet the testing requirements of programs such as the Environmental Protection Agency/ Department of Energy (EPA/DOE) Energy Star program, the DOE’s Lighting Facts and CALiPER Programs, and the DesignLights Consortium. The accreditation for testing of LED products to the IESNA LM-79 standard, ‘Approved Method: Electrical and Photometric Measurements of Solid-State Lighting Products’ includes:

• Total Flux measurement for luminous efficacy (IESNA LM-79:2008 (Sec.9));
• Luminous intensity measurement for photometric distribution (IESNA LM-79:2008 (Sec 10));
• Colour measurements;
• Colour (Correlated Colour Temperature) (IESNA LM-79:2008 (Sec 12), IESNA LM-58:1994, IESNA LM-16:1993, and CIE Pub. 15:2004);
• CRI (CIE Pub. 13.3:1995); and
• Electrical measurements including volts, amps, watts and power factor (ANSI C82.77:2002, ANSI C82.2:2002).
