March 6, 2012 – Ambient Corp., a provider of smart grid communications platforms and technologies, has joined the Wi-Fi Alliance, a global non-profit industry association with the goal of driving adoption of high-speed wireless local area networking.
“We congratulate Ambient on joining our membership,” said Edgar Figueroa, CEO of the Wi-Fi Alliance. “Ambient has demonstrated its commitment to a good user experience with advanced Wi-Fi solutions by joining our organization.”
“By incorporating open, standards-based communication technologies, such as Wi-Fi, within The Ambient Smart Grid, we ensure that utilities have the flexibility needed to better manage disparate grid devices,” said Ram Rao, Ambient’s SVP and CTO.
The Ambient Smart Grid Communications Platform supports different communications technologies in addition to Wi-Fi – Power Line Communications (PLC), cellular, radio frequency, serial and ethernet can be used for secure, two-way IP-based communications, explained the company.
“As demands upon the grid increase – visibility, interoperability, and connectivity with multiple grid devices will help utilities more effectively manage the distribution network; creating savings and benefits that can only be realized through a robust communications platform,” continued Rao.
