February 11, 2014 – Amerlux, in coordination with Unicorn Real Estate, has announced plans to build a new 100,000-sf manufacturing facility in Pearland, Texas, which—along with its new corporate headquarters and manufacturing centre in Oakland, N.J.—will upgrade the company’s total capacity to nearly 300,000 sf.

“We are making significant investments to establish new capabilities that advance our industry leadership and manufacturing prowess,” said Amerlux chair Frank P. Diassi, adding that the expansion provides a “technology roadmap that demonstrates [Amerlux’s] commitment to delivering innovation in commercial lighting for industry professionals.”

The new Pearland facility will encompass more than 70% additional space than the existing facility, and will feature “lean manufacturing” processes for both interior and exterior lighting products, and a wire-guidance system in the warehouse, boasting reduced costs. “Lean manufacturing” principles, including the Kaizen system of continual improvements for work processes and flow, will enhance productivity over an extensive period, noted Amerlux.

“Our new Texas-based facility will include a wide array of new materials, equipment and specialists to help produce and service our extensive line of interior and exterior products for industry professionals,” said Amerlux CEO and president Chuck Campagna. “Customers will benefit from quicker lead times, additional production capabilities and increased product development.”

According to the company, the facility will offer the latest metal fabrication and automated powder coating equipment for upgraded production, while customer service and support offices will be reconfigured to improve efficiencies. Showroom displays, testing areas and classrooms for CPE lighting design programs will also be available.

It is scheduled to open in Q4 2014.
