May 28, 2011 – AMT (Advanced Media Technologies) announced the availability of Motorola Mobility’s passive optical LAN (POL) solution through its Canadian partner, CTAR Corp. POL promises a “high-performance, reliable and secure enterprise network for IP voice, data and video”. Based on Motorola’s passive optical network (PON) technology, Motorola’s POL solution boasts “significant capital and operational cost savings over traditional enterprise network solutions”. POL is an enterprise LAN solution developed by Motorola that eliminates the need for large amounts of copper wiring, multiple distribution closets and related power and cooling systems. Suitable for enterprise and campus environments, large corporate users and customers requiring large amounts of bandwidth, POL replaces existing LAN connections with a single high-capacity fiber optic cable designed to connect the end user directly to the data centre.
