APC service portfolio now includes cable infrastructure assessment

June 8, 2008 | By Alyssa Dalton

APC, a player in integrated power and cooling services, says it has simplified data centre transformations to 10 Gigabit (Gb/s) Ethernet network architectures with the introduction of its Cable Infrastructure Assessment Service.

The new service is specially designed for Cisco, supporting the global launch of the Cisco Nexus 5000 Series.

Available
through Cisco Advanced Data Centre services, APC’s service promises to
deliver the necessary resources, expertise and tools to prepare data
centres to meet 10 Gb/s Ethernet specifications. Based on individual
customer needs and requirements, APC’s BICSI-certified Registered
Communication Distribution Designers (RCDDs) will evaluate the existing
structured cabling solution and recommend changes that will ensure
support for current or emerging 10 Gb/s Ethernet technologies.

Specifically, the cable infrastructure assessment looks at the following:

• Management. Does cable management meet industry standards?

• Installation. Does the installation of horizontal and backbone cabling into the rack comply with codes and standards?

• Labels. Are professional labels being used for the horizontal and backbone cabling and hardware?

The
assessment is carried out by RCDDs, who also perform copper and fiber
testing. CLICK HERE to find out more about the APC Cable Infrastructure
Assessment Service for Cisco Nexus family switches.
