“Is your bright future being dimmed by really old lighting? Do you care about conservation but don’t know where to start?” asks BC Hydro. There’s one more week left in BC Hydro’s contest to find the next energy efficiency makeover candidate and enter to win a makeover worth up to $35,000. “It’s easy to enter – tell us what kind of business you have, why your business deserves an energy efficiency overhaul, and take a few pictures so we know what we’re working with,” it said.

The contest closes APRIL 29, 2011.

Who can enter?
The contest is open to all BC Hydro small business customers–a company or non-profit organization that spends less than $200,000 annually on its electricity bill and does not have a key account manager.

How do I enter?
To enter, you must answer four questions describing how your business will benefit from an energy makeover and what some of your goals and motivations are for being more energy efficient.

Photos – Submit one to three photos of your business to show what your facility looks like and what kind of lights you have.

Video (optional) – You may also submit a 30-60 second YouTube video to give us a tour of your facility. Create the video, upload it to YouTube and submit the URL.

What is the prize?
BC Hydro has announced that the winner will receive an “energy makeover” valued at up to $35,000, which primarily consists of upgrading the facility’s existing inefficient lighting system to more energy efficient technologies, resulting in lower electrical consumption and energy savings. An energy audit will be completed to assess the facility for energy saving opportunities and for energy efficient lighting technologies best suited for the business without compromising light levels and ambiance. The makeover may also, but not necessarily, include upgrades to other non-lighting systems such as refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air conditioning in the facility, if appropriate.

The transformation will be captured and documented by BC Hydro’s video crew and made into a three-part video series.

How will my entry be evaluated?
All entries will be screened by BC Hydro Power Smart. Three finalists will be selected by BC Hydro’s executive director, Power Smart and Customer Care and a Team Power Smart Leader. Finalists’ entries will be posted on the Energy Fix website where the public will read the submissions, vote for their favourite entry and ultimately determine the winner.

How does voting work?
Visit the Energy Fix website to vote for one of the three finalists during the voting period, May 16 – June 3, 2011. Voters can cast one vote per computer web browser per day.
