REVIEW: Brother P-touch PT-E550W hand-held labelling tool

March 18, 2017 | By John Vickery

March 17, 2017 – We were asked to trial the Brother P-touch PT-E550W industrial hand-held labelling tool at a local jobsite. As a former teacher, I have always believed we must start putting technology into the hands of our future electricians… this tool does just that.

This is an impressive, convenient and rugged printing tool. Right out of the case, the PT-E550W’s initial set-up was much simpler than some of the other labelling units we’ve used. Staff were able to start using the device right away.

The buttons are clear to read and easy to use. The LCD display laid out the label as typed, and confirmation of the text was simple. Quick Labelling Keys are readily available for typical Data and Electrical applications.

The most frustrating aspect with some other labellers we’ve used was the removal of the adhesive backing. With the PT-E550W, the labels came out clean and easily from the unit; the tape adhesive was easy to access, and application of the tape proved a permanent solution to labelling Electrical/Data devices.

The P-touch PT-E550W supports both Wi-Fi and USB, granting access to other devices for easy typing and functionality. A vast number of Symbols, Barcode and File Memory are also included.

It doesn’t surprise me that Brother would consider their hand-held labeler as a highly effective printer. This promises real time and cost savings on larger projects, or jobs with a lot of repetitive labelling. We would highly recommend the Brother P-touch PT-E550W as a reliable and realistic option for any labelling requirements.
