November 27, 2018 - This is my third and final column about the 2018 CE Code’s Section 10 rewrite (the first two were posted online in June and August). This time, I am focusing on rules related to the grounding of separately derived systems, such as generators and transformers.
August 22, 2018 — In my last article about CE Code 2018’s Section 10 rewrite (EBMag May 2018), I explained some of the new structures and definitions, and touched upon the requirements and changes regarding grounding a consumer’s services at a meter-mounting device.
June 20, 2018 — One of the major changes in CE Code 2018 is a revised Section 10 “Grounding and bonding”. This Section has been misunderstood by many in the past, with some of its requirements considered controversial and confusing.
October 6, 2017 — Rules in Section 16 (New 16-300 series added) of the upcoming CE Code 2018 have been amended to include requirements for Class 2 power and datacom circuits. Although the new requirements do not reference “Power-over-Ethernet” (PoE) terminology, an Appendix B Note is added to explain the “Class 2 power and data communication circuit” is based on the concept known as PoE, introduced by the IEEE 802.3 series of standards.
August 17, 2017 - The new CE Code (24th ed.) is almost here, and Section 64 contains several important changes (already approved by the CE Code-Part I Committee), two of which I will discuss here.
May 26, 2017 - Required by the National Building Code (NBC), smoke alarms must be permanently connected to a lighting circuit, or one that supplies both lighting and receptacles, so as to quickly detect when there’s a problem with the circuit.
March 14, 2017 - As the name suggests, energy storage systems (ESSs) are mechanisms capable of storing energy for use at a future time.
January 18, 2017 - Ground fault protection (GFP) requirements in the CE Code are often misunderstood; FAQs range anywhere from the very basic to complicated engineered schemes.
