Get involved! Help ensure promptness of payment comes to Ontario

November 25, 2016 | By Anthony Capkun

November 25, 2016 – The Electrical Contractors Association of Ontario is asking everyone to reach out to their local MPP through a simple online petition that keeps prompt payment legislation top-of-mind for every Member of Provincial Parliament.

Ontario’s Attorney General has announced the government will introduce legislation in Spring 2017 based ‎on the main principles found in “Striking the Balance: Expert Review of Ontario’s Construction Lien Act” led by Bruce Reynolds and Sharon Vogel. Among those main principles:

“We recommend that a prompt payment regime be legislated in Ontario and that it be applied to both the public and private sectors.” (Chapter 13, Clause 47)

“Prompt payment legislation will help trade contractors and suppliers to run businesses with more certainty, provide more competitive bids and meet financial responsibilities in a timely fashion,” says ECAO, adding, “While this is a step in the direction of a more-promising future for the construction industry, let’s ensure we get in right the first time.”

On October 31, Prompt Payment Ontario (PPO) sent a letter to all MPPs endorsing the Reynolds Report and identifying issues of importance to trade contractors, suppliers and employees. The organization is now asking you to reach out to your local MPP via a SIMPLE ONLINE PETITION.

HOW SIMPLE? All you have to do is fill in your information, as the letter is already written, and your MPP will pop up once you enter your postal code. TAKE ACTION, and encourage your family, friends and co-workers to do the same.
