Cambrian College builds out its EV charging infrastructure

March 16, 2023 | By Anthony Capkun

March 16, 2023 – Natural Resources Canada is providing $100,000 in funding to Cambrian College of Applied Arts and Technology to install 20 electric vehicle chargers on its Sudbury, Ont., campus.

The funding comes through NRCan’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP). Cambrian, meantime, contributed over $247,000 toward the project.

The $680-million ZEVIP aims to address the lack of charging and refuelling stations across Canada. Funding is delivered through cost-sharing contribution agreements for eligible projects.

Ending March 2027, ZEVIP targets several infrastructure streams, including: public places; on-street; workplaces; multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs); and commercial and public fleets (on-road).

NRCan’s contribution through ZEVIP is limited to 50% of total project costs, up to a maximum of $5 million per project, and up to a maximum of $2 million per project for delivery organizations. Applications from “ultimate recipient” to delivery organizations will be limited to less than $100,000.
