Canada celebrates first National Lineworker Appreciation Day
July 10, 2019 – Electricity companies across Canada are recognizing today (July 10) as the first National Lineworker Appreciation Day.
Established by the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA), the event honours the highly trained men and women who, for more than a century, have maintained the electrical grid’s powerlines to ensure efficiency, safety and continuity of power to homes, schools and businesses.
“We are proud to lead this initiative, which recognizes lineworkers for the work they do in often dangerous conditions,” says Francis Bailey, CEA’s president and CEO. “We thank them for their service and for enabling the Canadian economy.”
“We’re pleased to join utilities across Canada in celebrating the important work of lineworkers,” says Max Cananzi, president of Alectra Utilities.
Going forward, CEA has launched a petition calling on the federal government to recognize July 10 as National Lineworker Appreciation Day.
