Canada funding two hydroelectric dams in Saguenay

May 28, 2011 | By Anthony Capkun

May 28, 2011 – Jean-Pierre Blackburn, minister of veterans affairs and member of parliament for Jonquiere-Alma, announced funding for two hydroelectric dams in the City of Saguenay. The ecoEnergy for Renewable Power program is expected to provide about $6.9 million over 10 years to the city for the two dams: Centrale Chute-Garneau and Centrale Pont-Arnaud.

“Investing in clean energy technologies stimulates the growth of a domestic clean energy industry, creating high-quality jobs for Canadians,” said Blackburn.

The Pont-Arnaud and Chute-Garneau projects have a combined capacity of more than 13MW and are capable of generating enough electricity to power more than 7000 homes. The electricity produced will be sold to Hydro-Quebec.
