Chrysler Canada’s 2014 Ram 1500 light-duty diesel pickup
September 5, 2013 | By Anthony Capkun
September 5, 2013 – The 2014 Ram 1500 offers a new 3.0L EcoDiesel engine mated with the TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission. Also new on the pickup is a front park assist system and host of efficiency, comfort and emissions-friendly refinements, including a variable displacement compressor, pulse-width modulated blower, humidity sensor and an environmentally friendly A/C refrigerant. Pricing for the 2014 Ram 1500 starts at MSRP $26,995.
The 3.0L powerplant in this half-ton is a turbocharged 60º DOHC 24-valve V6 producing 240-hp and 420 lb-ft of torque, and the vehicle is equipped with a capless fuel filler system for convenience. Ram says it is the only OEM in light-duty class to offer diesel, gasoline, and flex-fuel engines.
The pickup also boasts something called pulse-width modulation (PWM): a fuel-saving technology that reduces parasitic electrical load. Fuel delivery and the forward cooling fan are two systems that take advantage of PWM, adding a 0.4% improvement in fuel efficiency.
