Cleanup of wind turbine failure at Grand Etang begins

June 6, 2017 – Site cleanup has commenced at the site of a collapsed wind turbine located in Grand Etang, Inverness County, on Cape Breton Island.

Nova Scotia Power reports the turbine has not been in operation since early January following the catatrophic failure. No one was onsite at the time of the incident and there we no injuries.

An investigation into the collapse has been underway over the past few months, with further analysis of the data and equipment required before the cause of the incident can be confirmed, adds the utility.

Constructed in 2002, Grand Etang was one of the first wind installations in the province, says Nova Scotia Power, with a single 660kW Vestas V47 wind turbine.

Cleanup and removal of the turbine is expected to be completed within the next two weeks.
